Holker Garden Festival 2013

A sense of change is the theme for this year’s Burlington Stone show garden at the Holker Garden Festival, taking place from Friday 31st May until Saturday2nd June.

The garden is called “Metamorphosis” and Burlington will be showcasing the transformation of its natural raw stone into functional, hard wearing, yet at the same time, unique and signature landscaping products.

The garden will include a range of green slates, which were laid down in the English Lake District some 450 million years ago and which are metamorphic volcanic stones.  In the show garden, the centrepiece itself is a piece of metamorphic Broughton Moor stone in its natural state.  Like a common scene within Lake District fells, water trickles over the stone onto a river bed, which meanders through stone and vegetation.

On either side of the centre piece stone are paving and walled seating areas which use Westmorland Green and Cumbrian Black slate stone.  This is offered in riven finishes, using traditional technics that the company has employed for over 100 years.  Burlington's own product has also changed to meet the more modern demands of customers by demonstrating how a flamed finish is still able to complement the beauty and character of the material formed and offered by nature over 400 million years ago.

The two gardens either side of the centre piece also show traditional and contemporary styles to reflect equally how the same material can, complemented with beautiful planting, create different looks matching the often change in styles on a generation to generation basis of families.

Marking 48 years of Service

It was with mixed emotions that Burlington Stone thanked Terry Armistead, Production Manager, for his dedication to the business over the past 48 years and to wish him well in his retirement at a special party on Friday 5th May 2017.  Having joined Burlington Stone at the age of 15, Terry has played a key role within the production facility at Kirkby-in-Furness.  The vast knowledge and experience he has gained over the past 48 years, along with his “can-do” attitude means he will be greatly missed by colleagues and customers alike.  Luckily, Terry has kindly agreed to continue to work for Burlington for a couple of days per week.
