Current vacancy for Maintenance Engineer
Burlington Slate Limited is part of the Holker Group of Companies owned by the Cavendish Family. Burlington quarries, manufactures and sells high quality, stone-based products in the UK and internationally. The business is now being further developed, with investment in new plant, equipment and processes and currently has a vacancy for a Maintenance Engineer, based at Kirkby-in-Furness Quarry near Ulverston.
The Role: The Engineer will be required to work in a busy manufacturing environment across a platform of many different types of machinery ranging from small bridge saws, compressors and generators to large belt driven frame saws, overhead cranes and conveyor systems, working on reactive and preventive maintenance tasks.
The successful candidate will be time-served and will ideally hold an ONC/D or equivalent in mechanical engineering, with ‘hands-on’ experience of servicing and repairs across a variety of static and mobile plant and machinery. An awareness of lean working and planned maintenance and/or an electrical understanding would be an advantage but not essential, as training will be given.
In addition to technical competency, applicants must be enthusiastic, flexible (shift work and changes of location may be required), able to demonstrate problem-solving skills and a commitment to working safely. In return, they will receive a competitive salary and benefits package, and opportunities to develop their skills and career.

Completed applications must be received by Friday 2nd December 2016
It was with mixed emotions that Burlington Stone thanked Terry Armistead, Production Manager, for his dedication to the business over the past 48 years and to wish him well in his retirement at a special party on Friday 5th May 2017. Having joined Burlington Stone at the age of 15, Terry has played a key role within the production facility at Kirkby-in-Furness. The vast knowledge and experience he has gained over the past 48 years, along with his “can-do” attitude means he will be greatly missed by colleagues and customers alike. Luckily, Terry has kindly agreed to continue to work for Burlington for a couple of days per week.
It is with delight that Burlington Stone’s Westmorland Green flamed paving has won the Landscaping Category at this year’s Natural Stone Awards 2016. Working together with Hardscape, based in Bolton, Burlington Stone supplied their Green natural stone for an integral part of the refurbishment of the Deansgate – Castlefield Metro Station project in Manchester.
The Role: This position is a full-time role providing support to the Sales and Customer Service department and is based at the Company’s Head Office at Kirkby-in-Furness Quarry.
