Her Majesty The Queen has officially opened a new £15m National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art in Newmarket, where many of her own horses are trained and stabled.
Ten years of planning has gone into the new centre, which includes Burlington Stone’s Westmorland Green flamed paving in the internal and external walkways.
The aesthetic appearance, along with the superior technical characteristics of Burlington’s Westmorland Green natural stone, made it an ideal choice for the facility, which will include the new National Horseracing Museum and a National Art Gallery of British Sporting Art. It is hoped that this new attraction will attract thousands of visitors from all over the world.
Burlington Stone is a part of the Holker Group of Companies located on the Holker Estate in South Cumbria. Another member of the Holker Group is Cartmel Racecourse. Therefore with the Group’s love and passion for racing, it is only fitting for Burlington Stone to be part of the new centre in Newmarket.
It is with delight that Burlington Stone’s Westmorland Green flamed paving has won the Landscaping Category at this year’s Natural Stone Awards 2016. Working together with Hardscape, based in Bolton, Burlington Stone supplied their Green natural stone for an integral part of the refurbishment of the Deansgate – Castlefield Metro Station project in Manchester.
